Amazon.com assists nonprofit fundraising
Nov 5th, 2007 | By Max Leisten | Category: Amazon AnnouncementsAmazon announced that it will, through its Lexington Fulfillment Center, help qualifying nonprofit organizations with a gift-wrapping fund-raising program during the 2007 holiday season. The announcement only covers the Kentucky location so no word if Amazon will extend this program to its other Amazon Fulfillment Centers (there are 13 other locations in the US alone … come on, Amazon).
Fulfillment center employees will train volunteers in Amazon’s gift-wrapping procedures. Individuals wrapping gifts often average 20 or more packages per hour, which can add up fast for participating nonprofits. Gift-wrapping tables are designed for wrapping while standing, so volunteers must be physically able to stand throughout their shift. All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.
The “Gift-Wrap Your Holidays with a Smile” program will earn the nonprofit organization between $.60 and $.75 for each item gift-wrapped by a volunteer. In 2006, more than $137,000 was donated to non-profits that participated in the Lexington program.
The program, which is open to all 501(c)3-certified organizations, will run from November 19 through December 22, 2007. Shifts range from a minimum of four hours to a maximum of 10, and organizations can send 5-20 volunteers for each shift.
Interested nonprofits should contact Barry McCaslin (mccaslin@amazon.com or 859-381-2229) for more information.
