Dec 11th, 2007 | By Max Leisten | Category: Amazon Features, Amazon News

Amazon announced this morning that it has invested in payment super star Bill Me Later (formerly known as I4Commerce), in my opinion the leading and easiest-to-use credit payment method. The aim is to offer Amazon buyers in the US Bill Me Later as an option so that they can get 90+ days financing for qualifying [...]

Continuing the global roll out of Amazon Prime in all its markets, Amazon today launches Prime in Germany for 29 Euro (about $42 and rising with the US Dollar continuing its free fall). Announced in the German weekly news magazine Der Spiegel, Jeff Bezos admitted that in the short term Prime will be a loss [...]

Randy Smythe, former CEO of eBay DVD PowerSeller Glacier Bay DVD, is musing at Seeking Alpha about the increasing impact third-party sellers (”3P”) have on Amazon and most recently the 41% Q3′07 results. He lists five primary factors:

Amazon revenue grows a gazillion percent

Oct 23rd, 2007 | By Max Leisten | Category: Amazon News

Okay, rounded down it comes to about 41% revenue growth YOY to $3.26 billion but it’s still a stunning number and something the eBay management team should be very jealous of (considering a lot of eBay sellers expanding to Amazon are fueling this 41% jump). There is some concern about operating margins (causing somewhat of [...]

Oct 16th, 2007 | By Max Leisten | Category: Amazon Fulfillment, Amazon News

Amazon.com said on Monday that it would open a new fulfillment center in Indiana. That follows an announcement earlier this month that it would open a fulfillment center in Kentucky, bringing the total number of Amazon Fulfillment warehouses in the U.S. by my count to 15 (plus 7 in Europe and 4 in Asia).

The official Amazon Associates blog announced yesterday a cool new promotion that gives you a 20% referral fee for each MP3 purchase on Amazon.com. Better hurry though, this only runs through December 31st.
Through December 31, 2007 Associates are eligible to earn 20% on all MP3 referrals (up to $1.50 per item). Beginning January 1, 2008 [...]

Amazon.com Earnings Call on October 23rd, 2007

Oct 12th, 2007 | By Max Leisten | Category: Amazon News

Amazon announced today (AMZN) that its Q3′07 earnings conference call will be held on October 23rd at 5 p.m. EST. The forecast is for 35+% growth YOY and there’s a good deal of support for the current share price which validates the positive momentum Amazon has (way too expensive for me). But how big is [...]

Amazon launches high-definition productorial

Oct 10th, 2007 | By Max Leisten | Category: Amazon Features, Amazon News

Amazon today launched a Customer Knowledge Center on high-definition consumer electronics, Amazon High-Def 101. While the name may be a mouthful, it is essentially a productorial (a mash-up of product information and tutorial — come on, you have to admit that this at least sounds better) that educates consumers on high-definition TVs, computers, DVD players [...]

Amazon.com site redesign: good-bye my beloved tabs

Oct 9th, 2007 | By Max Leisten | Category: Amazon News

Amazon.com pioneered tabs in the online retailing world but has been slowly moving to left-aligned category navigation, running out of space on top with now over 40 departments. Really, the few tabs remaining looked quite awkward.

Well, do not despair, the announced redesign is finally going live. Amazon is now acknowledging its illegitimate category navigation child [...]
