Amazon launches high-definition productorial

Amazon High-Definition Customer Knowledge Center

Amazon today launched a Customer Knowledge Center on high-definition consumer electronics, Amazon High-Def 101. While the name may be a mouthful, it is essentially a productorial (a mash-up of product information and tutorial — come on, you have to admit that this at least sounds better) that educates consumers on high-definition TVs, computers, DVD players ranging from entry-level all-in-one systems to the ultimate bundle that can set you back a big number and your first born.

High-Def 101 offers consumers:

  • An interactive, intuitive layout that allows customers to easily access and find information
  • A library of consumer-friendly articles aimed at helping the average person configure their HD home entertainment experience
  • A dictionary of HD terminology that explains commonly used phrases and abbreviations
  • A community of home theater professionals who regularly post blog entries and participate in forums to help answer customer questions and provide direction

Comprehensive, well-organized site and hopefully only the first of this type of product portal on Amazon (easy to extend to many categories, most importantly video games and digital photography with too many choices already). Good move on Amazon’s part to get content on the site (think natural search) that draws more traffic and makes buying toys even more fun.

I do hope they’re going to have media-rich blog posts (consumed via RSS) that will be educational, fun and pull me back to the site (not really me — I do not need more gadgets for right now).
