Amazon.com now offers drop-shipping to retailers
Sep 26th, 2007 | By Max Leisten | Category: Amazon News, Amazon ServicesFinding news ways to monetize the Earth’s Biggest Selection, Amazon.com has now officially added drop-shipping to its merchant services offering beyond Amazon Associates, eCommerce sites (Amazon Webstore) and Fulfillment by Amazon.
Drop Ship by Amazon is essentially the next step in off-Amazon eCommerce using Amazon’s extensive product catalog:
- First, Amazon Associates allowed anybody to offer products (as an affiliate) through content-embedded links or the new aStore. Easy, fast and up to 10% in commission for referrals.
- Amazon Webstore earlier this year extended this model to merchant-owned inventory offered on Amazon.com (with attractive backfill option via Amazon Associates) and almost complete freedom of branding (with the exception of the checkout). Here’s a very basic example, I’ll post a few better ones shortly.
- Drop Ship by Amazon now enables merchants to offer Amazon products on an independent self-hosted eCommerce site with full control over merchandising, customer checkout and payment processing.
I have created a brief primer on Drop Ship by Amazon to help online retailers evaluate this program and steps to get started.
