Third-party sellers migrating to Amazon.com (Seeking Alpha)
Oct 29th, 2007 | By Max Leisten | Category: Amazon NewsRandy Smythe, former CEO of eBay DVD PowerSeller Glacier Bay DVD, is musing at Seeking Alpha about the increasing impact third-party sellers (”3P”) have on Amazon and most recently the 41% Q3′07 results. He lists five primary factors:
- Amazon wants third-party sellers
- Higher ASPs and margins at Amazon
- Better customer service
- eBay is constantly changing
- Amazon is a retailer (eBay is an aggregator)
I know there is a lot of frustration among PowerSellers about eBay’s business model (”damn listing fees”), the level playing field (”why can’t I get a discount? I am a huge seller on eBay!”), the eBay controls (”eBay’s Trust & Safety pulled again my listings”) or even eBay’s right to shape the buyer experience (well, this ranges from not allowing Google Checkout, the new price + shipping sort option, PayPal’s Payment Review and many more).
The fact is that no seller should abandon eBay but simply look at Amazon as the next logical step to build the business, diversify online channels and spread his wings. eBay continues to be the world’s best business incubator and is exclusively focused on providing the best auction experience in eCommerce.
